Migrating ND Google Account Data


ND Google Accounts for class of 2020 will be deactivated at the end of August 2020.  

  • When the account is deactivated you will no longer have access to your ND Gmail, Google Drive, Google Sites, YouTube, etc. 

To retain access to your ND Google files you need to migrate your data before August 2020

Timeline

June 2020-August 2020

  • ND Email, Google Drive and Google Sites are still accessible
  • ND Graduates migrate their ND Google data to personal Google accounts

End of August 2020

  • Class of 2020 Notre Dame Google Accounts will be deactivated 
  • Notre Dame sends out an email reminder before the accounts are deactivated.

Migrate ND Google Drive and Gmail Files

Step 1 - Clean Out ND Email

  • Before transferring ALL of your emails, delete those that you will no longer need. The more emails that you transfer, the longer the process takes.

Step 2 - Copy Emails and Google Drive Files

  • Google will help you transfer your ND Google emails and ND Drive Files to your own personal account.

Migrate ND Google Sites (Like your SSLP!)

Step 1: Transfer Google Sites to Shared Google Drive

  • To have access to any Google Sites you created,  you will need to move your site to a Shared Google Drive.  
  • NOTE: You cannot transfer ownership of the site to a non-ND account, so I have created a Shared Google Drive called “Google Site Archive” for you to use.

  • Remember to “Re-Publish” your site after moving to Shared Google Drive. 

Step 2: Migrate Google Drive Files Used on Your Google Site

  • REMEMBER - After your ND Google account is closed, any of your ND Google Drive files embedded or linked to your Google Site will not open. 

Migrate any Google Drive files on your site to the Shared Google Drive also 

Migrate Other ND Google Data:  Photos, Blogs, YouTube, etc

Step 1: Use Google Takeout to Download other data

  • Google Takeout is a Google tool that allows you to download all of your work from your Notre Dame Google account and take it with you. 
  • NOTE: Depending on how much data you plan to download from your ND Google Account this process may take some time.

  • After the files download, you can import the archives into a personal Google account.
